Thru Mar 1, 2008  "Hot Springs: A Journey Through History" - Photography Exhibit

            Location: Hot Springs Convention Center

            Description:  The exhibit consists of photographs from the collection of the Garland County Historical Society that have been enlarged and framed for exhibition purposes.  This is part of the permanent collection owned by the Hot Springs Convention & Visitors Bureau featuring 19 new photos, including: Babe Ruth at the Hot Springs Country Club, circa 1923, with the Babe holding his golf club like a baseball bat; Ruth drinking from a water pump at the Hot Springs Country Club, also circa 1923; Ruth riding a horse at Oaklawn Jockey Club, also circa 1923; Cy Young, the legendary baseball pitcher, March 23, 1907. This photo was taken during spring training for pitchers held in Whittington Park. At the time Young was the player/manager for the Boston Americans (later renamed the Boston Red Sox).

            Description:  Oaklawn Park's 2007 live racing season begins! Through April 12th the Thoroughbred world is focused on Hot Springs' world famous Oaklawn Park.             Description:  Tillman's Antiques, celebrating twenty-five years in the 100 block, has been joined by the new shops - Rampant Lion, Art-Tiques, Manor House Antiques and Joan Good Antiques of Royal Street, New Orleans. These dealers hope to attract others who will expand Antique Row further into the Historic District and create an area whose reputation for fine antiques will be unmatched in the Mid-South. Antique Row with over 15 shops, two restaurants and a hotel also includes wonderful upscale boutiques featuring ladies clothing, decorative accessories, jewelry, linens, gourmet food, luxury bath items and a children's store. May 17, 2008  3rd - Stueart Pennington Running Of The Tubs

            Description:  Stueart Pennington Running Of The Tubs, an open bathtub race that highlights the city's colorful history of "We Bathe the World," on World-famous Bathhouse Row in downtown Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas.  The winning team will receive a traveling winner's trophy that it will keep until the next year's race. Individual team members will receive a trophy. Two additional trophies will be given, one for the Most Original Tub and one for the Most Humorous Tub. All entry fees will be donated to the Downtown Merchants Christmas Tree Fund.

            Rules:  For a complete list of rules please contact the Hot Springs Convention Center.  Some of the rules include:  (1) All team members must be 18 or older, (2) The four team members pushing the tubs must wear hats of some type and shape and also some suspenders, (3) Anything goes, including water balloons, costumes and race strategies.

            Description:   The three-day show will be held at the Hot Springs Convention Center. The Family Fun Zone and Outdoor Show will open at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 29, and Friday, May 30. On Saturday, May 31, the show will open at noon. Weigh-ins each day will be held in Summit Arena at 4 p.m., and the Ranger Boat winner will be drawn from the crowd during the final weigh-in. This will mark the fourth time the prestigious championship, which annually shines an international media spotlight on the nation¿s best weekend anglers, will be held in Hot Springs. Hot Springs has hosted a number of record-setting FLW Outdoors tournaments, including the historic 2007 Forrest Wood Cup where Scott Suggs of Bryant, Ark., became the sport¿s first $1 million winner. The event drew a record crowd of more than 60,000 fans to Summit Arena and the Hot Springs Convention Center over the course of four days. Hot Springs also hosted the 2005 Forrest Wood Cup and the 2004, 2001 and 2000 All-American championships, each of which set fan attendance records.  Like the Forrest Wood Cup, the All-American will feature a Family Fun Zone and Outdoor Show with children¿s rod and reel giveaways and a Ranger boat giveaway on the final day of competition. 

            Admission:  Admission and all activities are free.
